Bhakti yoga, or devotional yoga, is the most natural path for those who are dominantly seeking emotional fulfilment and well-being. Bhakti is a Sanskrit term that signifies an attitude of devotion to a personal god/goddess that is similar to a number of human-human relationships such as beloved-lover, friend-friend, parent-child, and master/mistress-servant.
Bhakti is a yoga path that aims to form a divine, loving union with the bhakta’s (bhakti devotee) personal god/goddess. The exact form of personal god/goddess or type of union varies between the individual bhakta’s and schools of practice, but the essence of each process is very similar.
Bhakti practice and meditation develops the awareness of relationship. The bhakta is aware of their personal god/goddess and of their own being, as well as the relationship between the bhakta and in this case, Yogi Dominanda.
The bhakta usually practices meditation by visualizing, thinking and feeling that their personal god/goddess is sitting or standing before them. The bhakta pours out their heart’s love, adoration, and shares their deepest thoughts and concerns with personal god/goddess until a continual flow of awareness moves between bhakta and Yogi Dominanda.
This continuous flow of love and life force brings about a super-conscious state of awareness and may lead to the ability to experience deep samadhis and other higher states of awareness.
